Your analysis is only as good as your sample preparation.

Although assembling an XRF liquid cup may seem like the simplest step in the XRF analysis chain,
it plays a critical role in both measurement repeatability and instrument safety.

If a cup is not assembled correctly, the distance between the sample surface and the instrument optics can vary,
directly affecting the X-ray intensities. This leads to deviations and reduced repeatability of the analytical results.
In addition, improper assembly significantly increases the risk of leaks,
which may contaminate the instrument and result in expensive interventions.

Taking a moment to assemble the cup properly ensures a constant sample position,
stable measurements, and reliable datawhile also protecting your XRF instrument.

How to assemble an XRS-24-32 sample cup?

1. Separate the sample cup parts using scissors

Never remove the T-piece from the cup by hand.
Doing so can leave a small notch, which may cause the cup to sit unevenly in the sample holder and result in inaccurate measurement results.

2. Assemble the sample cup

Place the large cylinder on a clean surface.

Make sure the air outlet is at the bottom side. The air outlet allows air to escape, preventing wrinkles in the film caused by trapped air.

Place the film on top of the large cylinder.

Place the small cylinder on top and press down gently.

Both cylinders should touch the table surface.

Pushing too fast or too hard may tear the film and cause the cup to leak.

3. Turn the cup upside down and check the XRF thin film

No wrinkles, no contamination.

Wrinkled or torn thin film.

Touching the thin film with finger causing contamination.

Small cylinder pushed too far.

4. Leak test for liquid samples

Fill the cup to the 1cm fill line, for petrochemical samples this corresponds to 4,0 gram of sample.

Place the lid on the sample cup and push until it is closed.

Place the cup on a blank paper to perform a leak test:

No spot, no leak

A spot indicates a leak meaning the cup must be replaced
